Fresh Friday 3 Recap

Last night saw one of the most innovate, progressive, and most importantly fun Fresh Fridays to date at ATP. Not only were new tricks and combos being thrown throughout the night, but with support from key sponsors, standout riders walked away with no doubt the best prizes yet in a Fresh Friday event.

As is the theme this year – the ATP crew completely rebuilt the Appaljack Terrain Park from the ground up the week before the event, and debuted 9 features Friday night that catered to all riders. What was really impressive during the event was watching the “advanced” features get sessioned by almost all of the skiers and boarders. This definitely says something about how people have stepped it up this season. Included in the setup were 2 completely new never-before-hit rails – dubbed “Library Rails” due to their resemblance of a campus handrail – the new Down-Flat and Down-Flat-Down Flat rails made a proper appearance.

This Fresh Friday featured a couple new twists that really sent things over the top – this was all thanks to our two key sponsors – Scion and Dragon. Dragon supported the event not only with some sick goggles for standouts, but with a load of hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill to keep everyone’s energy high to hike all the features during the session.

Scion also partnered with this Fresh Friday as part of their “Scion Snow Tour” – and these guys really outdid themselves. Not only did they show up with some Signal Athletes – Nick Brewer & Iris Lazzareschi who were a huge help organizing, announcing, and judging the event – but they offered some of the sickest prizes a Fresh Friday has ever seen – including a new Signal snowboard and outerwear combo, and a trip to Woodward at Copper!! Unreal – ATP would like to give a huge shout to these guys for raising the bar for this event series no doubt!

As for the riding, we can pretty well let the photos and edit speak for themselves; needless to say – everyone DESTROYED all the features. The session got underway shortly after 7, with 2 20 minute jam sessions – one on the top 3 features (24’ flat rail, 30’ down flat down box, 24’ down flat library rail) and the second on the second tier of features (20’ c-box, 20’ skinny flat box, 30’ down flat down flat library rail). The Scion Athletes, along with ATP and Recess watched and judged riders carefully as the shredders went at it.

Austin Leonard on the brand new Down-Flat Library Rail

At the end of the night, and after much discussion awards went to the following:

Best Trick: Austin Leonard with a front nosepress 360 out of the down-flat-down-flat library rail

Overall Shredder: Gus Gordon who was killing everything all night, highlights included some sweet noseblunts on the down-flat library rail, and a 50-50 to backside boardslide through the down-flat-down-flat library rail

Cleanest Trick: Andrew Sanchez with a smoooooth front board down the whole down-flat-down-flat

Standout Grom: Julien Passajou who’s best trick of the evening was a stylie slow front nosepress on the dub down library rail

Standout Skier: Barrett Williams who nailed a clean 450 out of the down flat rail, as well as some big disasters on the dub down library.

Austin walked away with a Signal board and outerwear package, Gus received a trip to Woodward at Copper, and Andrew & Barrett were hooked up with some Dope Dragon goggles.

After awards were given, the Scion/Signal crew also raffled off ANOTHER board & outerwear package, as well as a second trip to Woodward @ Copper – sick!

Thanks to all the riders who made it out for the event – definitely one to remember! Huge thanks again to our sponsors – Scion Snow Tour, Dragon, and Recess Ride Shop. Next big event weekend at ATP is February 26th and 27th – where we will run Ladies Park Night and the Shred for the Cup Rail Jam back to back!
